Big Johnsons vs. wiring length 3 Months, 1 Week ago
I recently put Big johnsons on my bike. The local "stealer put them on for me while I was on vacation, along with SS cables.

When I went to pick it up, they informed me there was no way they could internally route the electricals (?)...True or false?

2nd question, they zip-tied the electrical wiring to the bars in 4 different spots on each side. I've got a set of the taller risers Yammy sells for the Roadstar. Anyone tried them with Big Johsnons and standard wiring?

Thanks!

Usually OEM dealers are not going to make aftermarket modifications because of liability issues. Custom shops typically are willing to for a fee. Check the custom shops in your area and ask your wiring question.

My friend has the Big Johnsons and he wired his inside the bars. I wasn't super easy but it can be done. He was able to use the wires without splicing but he doesn't have risers. I have the Nostagia bars and was able to wire them inside without splicing but if I did it again I would splice.

Give yourself a case of beer and a whole day to do it right.

Woodz:

I too have the big bars. I added about 6 inches to every wire and routed through the handlebars. Looks great!

The only reasons that I extended the wiring:
1. It was going to be a little tight since there wasn't that much slack stock.
2. If I had to cut off the plugs anyway (to get the wiring through the bars) and have to re-splice and solder, I might as well add the extra 6 inches while it was apart.

NOTE: If you do this, make sure you add the extra length near the plugs (3 inches+ out) just in-case you have any issues. You wouldn't want the splices inside the bars where you can't get to them... :0)

Hope that helps you.
