Can some one tell me what the available amps are on a R*(05) after required amps to run the bike.

Thanks

Re:available amps 3 Months ago
think the bike... stock runs around 16amps including headlight, running lights, turn signals, etc. It varies. Throw a run-brake controller and it uses more. Throw on passing lamps and it uses more. Etc...

Think the '05 generates about 29amps, though you shouldn't max it out. Lucky, the '04 and prior models was only about 21amps

I'm confused or I'm not reading this right. The bike uses 16 amps to run,
why would you be lucky to generate 21 amps instead of 29?
I know its me, my brain isn't computing this correctly...

'05+ models. It has a 29amp setup.

'99-04 models... 21amp.

Still a weak system for adding a bunch of electrical stuff.

Ok got it.. That's a good thing to know. I don't plan on putting to much more electrical stuff on anyway. I wonder if there is a way to bump that up. Has anyone modded the windings on the generator to get more out of it or can you get am 05 or better generator winding housing and install it on an 04?

You can retrofit the rectifier and stator for '05s+ to fit the older models. See the tech section.

Ahhh the tech section... Why can't I remember to look there?

It can't have anything to do with my age so it must be a state of mind. I don't know what state I left my mind in....

Why would the 04 (first year of the 1700) system generate less than an '05 1700? There are available stator upgrades for '99 - '03 Roadies, but none for the 1700s...and believe me, with all the lights I've added to mine, I've looked.

The '04+ bikes all have the same charging system. Is there some other electrical difference between the '04 and '05+?
