Re:Passing lights 5 Months ago
Mine are wired from the dealer on all the time unless I turn them off with a switch mounted by dealer in the back of the left highway lite. Sometimes I turn it off if I get people flashing at me but that is not often. I feel a little more visible riding during the day time when all can see that extra set of lites coming at them.
Question; is there a difference in the charging rates between the various years of the r*s?

One thing to think about. If they are wired to come on with the key they will be an extra load on the battery during start ups. So it might be best to find a source that doesn't light up until the motor is running.

Re:Passing lights 5 Months ago
Usually passing lights are wired to the headlight high or low beam, and they usually have their own switch. If you want them to be able to be on all the time just make sure that they have their own switch. The engine can be started with passing light switch off and aftr it is running turn them on.
My own bike has passing lights and it also has fog lights on the engine guard. The passing lights operate with the high beam and the fog lights operate with the low beam. The fog lights have a switch mounted with a tab attached to the screw which holds the clutch pearch to the handlebar, so it is right next to the rest of the switches on the left. When the bike is parked the passing lights are off and the head light is on low beam. During daylight I start the engine and as I start off I switch to high beam which includes the passing lights. At night I run on low beam with the fog lights on. WE don't have the charging capacity to run passing and fog lights all together!

Re:Passing lights 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
A little off topic of what this thread has been about, but DEFINATELY still in the realm of Passing lights.

  • I have recently had the Yami light bar installed. I don't like the swithc on the back of the left passing light housing. Its is very cheezey and not well built IMHO. I want to get a rubber gasket covered one from a marine supply store or something. Has anyone done this? If so, any recommendations? Thanks for the help.

I use the kury accessory switch, mounts on top of the front master cylinder and has three switches. I use one for Passing Lamps, one for Silver Bullets, one for LED running lights (eagle eyes, front reflector conversion, rear reflector conversion and under bag red LEDs). It serves my purposes perfectly.

I like Pop Rivet's setup. He has a HD switch mounted under his left hand switches.

It's pretty much been covered, but I had posted this for someone else on here a while ago...may be of some help. This is from the Yami installation instructions that come with the passing lamps.

The only exception to this is the '04s which is a 1700, but didn't get the bump in electrical till '05.

I believe from '06 onward there is a separate passing lamp wire (white I believe) that only comes on when the engine is running.

On my 2005 the passing lights don't come on until the engine is running. They work with either the hi or low beams on.
