Mark Cole lamp variation 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Don't want this thread to go too far but I'm doing Mark's lamp setup with a pair of Walmart round blue halogens ($19.95 + tax). Thinking about running them off the standard pass/headlight wiring but putting a lighted switch on the bar area. Won't be a classy setup but just maybe someone will see me before they decide to pull out (again). Banking on the blue light being a little more noticeable in the daylight. Question: would a relay be appropriate inclusive of an inline fuse?

Greyphart,
You may want to check your local vehicle laws before going thru with this. A number of states I have lived in had blue lights restricted to emergency vehicles only. Just a thought if you havn't already checked.

greyphart, make sure whatever you use isn't high power. I believe standard fog lights are 55w. Normally, motorcyclists use 35w bulbs for spots. 35*2=70/12=5.83amp. 55w bulbs would be 55*2=110/12=9.167amp. You can get 35w replacements bulbs, though they are hard to find. Never seen them at any auto store. The R* has a weak charging system.

I have mine wired to a kuryakyn 3-switch accessory switch (mounts on top of front master cylinder). It has a main fuse (30amp) and three (10amp) for each switch.

I originally had it wired to the red/yellow strip wire in the headlight bucket, but since it uses almost 6amps, and since the switch for mine was at one of the spot cans (awkward, if you wanted to turn it on/off, you'd have to pull over and flip the switch).

My current setup is much easier as there's no need to do that anymore.

Forgot about the legality issue. Thanks. As for the electrical drain I'll either have to find the 35's or start changing out bulbs for LED's. Thanks all!

Yeah, around here LEO's will have you stopped in a heartbeat if you run any blue light visible from the front. I don't know what the damage would be for a ticket, but I'm pretty sure you'd get one rather than a warning.

Those lights are a bluish white color, they don't actually look blue, so I don't think the law would mind,,but the power draw could be too much...

You're correct, Flash. They're blue xenon. I see them immediately on a lot of cars and some bikes. And finding a 35 could be tricky. But only about a month or so of the riding season left so there's no rush. Then it's modification season.

Found some H3's on http://www.rallylights.com/hella/H3.asp for $3.30 each plus shipping. Bingo!
