The OEM battery in my '04 quit this past April. I'm not sure how much better you can expect than that. I replaced it with one from the Yamaha shop local to me. Price was better than what I could find on the internet.

I was able to get a Yuasa direct replacement AGM battery for $87.00 out the door. They wanted to put it on a charger for two hours before they let me have it, but I told 'em I had to go. They put the electrolyte in and I took it home. Installed it on my bike, put it on a charger and in 10 min. the charger said it was done. Been cranking like a champ ever since.

In my opinion YUASA is the best battery available. they have two choices, standard and high performance. The standard is YTX20L-BS lists for $132.95, I can get it for $90.00 + shipping. The high performance is YTX20HL-BS lists for $142.95, I can get it for $95.00 + shipping. For $5.00 you can't go wrong with the high performance. I get them from Tucker Rocky who has seven warehouses around the country, they will ship it to you from the nearest warehouse to where you live.

The Yuasa YTX20 batteries are sealed batteries; however, they come to you dry with acid on the side, you put in the acid and seal it up. When you service the battery it is 100% brand new; when you buy a sealed battery off the shelf, how long has it been sitting and how much life is gone?

There is a brand of tire called CHENG SHIN they make a 150/80x16 rear which lists for $75.00; do you want one on your RoadStar? I don't want one on mine and I don't want to put one on yours either!

I used to work on small airplanes all the time and there is a brand called CONDOR thet sold for $90.00 There was another brand that sold for $32.00. I did a little research on planes used for flight training (lots of landings) and I found that the $90.00 tire got about 1500 landings; whereas the $32.00 tire got about 500 landings. With the $90.00 tire you got 1500 landings and paid for one installation; with the $32.00 tire three of them got you the same 1500 landings for $6.00 extra and you paid for three instalations.

BUYING THE CHEAPEST ITEM ISN'T ALWAYS CHEAP!

In the Air Force I used to test automotive equipment. We did a test on gel type batteries in crash fire trucks. They out performed everything else hands down. That being said, I have a Yuasa in my 2000 R* with great results.

Gel cell batteries aren't fond of riders taking the winter off , they tend to die........ Just a heads up. BB
