The 99-o3s were rated at 21 amps is my understanding...Coug

The 1600 (and 04 1700)charging system is weak. I wouldn't try running any heated clothing. My op anywho.

"1600's and 04 1700's

21amp stator
18amp input to rectifier w/output regulated between 14.1v to 14.9v @ no load (that is the output of regulator not connected to battery)

05 & up 1700's

29amp stator
35amp input to rectifier (same regulated output as above)"

Re:02 roadstar watt, amp out put 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Ok, so here's a couple questions...

Is the higher output stator from the later 1700's a direct replacement for the lower output unit in the 1600's?

Also, the aftermarket "High-Output" stator claims 30-35% increased output (depending on who's website you're looking at). So is that a 30-35% increase over the 21 amps of the 1600 stator or over the 29 amps of the later 1700 stator?

21 amps x 1.35 = 28.35 amps
29 amps x 1.35 = 39.15 amps

Big difference there, and if those claims are over the 1600's 21-amp stator you might as well just get a later 1700 stator from your dealer (assuming the answer to the first question was yes).

Last but not least, anyone have a clue how many amps are required to run the stock electrical components? (lights, ignition, etc.) Interested in knowing just how many amps are free and available for use in the stock setup.

If you change the stator, you also have to change the regulator.

Planning on doing the same as cj989 (but without the heated gear) and with LED's in signals. To my knowledge the 35 watt highway lights with the standard setup will work. Continuously, I'm not sure. The heated gear will be an extra draw on the system. How much gear we're talking is unclear. But to my knowledge anytime you run electrical resistance wiring like the heated stuff there's an extra draw on the system. M2CTS.

Contacted ElectroSport today to inquire about whether it would be possible to have a 3-phase stator and regulator made for the R* that puts out around 40 amps like they offer for the Harley TC engines. Benefit of going 3-phase over Single-Phase is that it will charge the battery at idle or a hair over idle which is unheard of using standard Single-Phase systems. It also puts off a lot less heat meaning less energy is being wasted by the regulator.

Will let you all know what I find out.

Re:02 roadstar watt, amp out put 1 Month ago
mine is a 3phase @ 21AHr x 14.3V is 300W

going through the book's list of bulbs as stock on my 03 R* Midnight
looks about 200W total (both directionals, high beam, brake) current draw.

maybe a useable 100W (~7AHr), more if you change out the bulbs for LED's.

i been thinking about a rewire myself.

if you have saddlebag space, adding another stock 18AHr battery
would get you a lot more time to run power accessories. alternately
you can get pretty 'large' (as in AHr) battery pack's like those
NiMH or LiPO for a toy RC car. ie 7.2V 4.5AHr. 2 would cost ~$40
give you 14.4V @ 9AHr. ofcourse that comes down to how you can
charge/maintain them but im sure somone could put 4 of them in
inside pockets of the heated jacket or pockets on the sleeves.

03 R* Midnight
04 mag wheels chromed, V&H Pro pipe, HyperCharger intake, relocated FPump,
8" risers with 42" 1.25 beachbars 'upside down'!,
hand stretched the control sw wiring 8" and perewitz made me an 8" over brake line
bunch of other crap with chrome too...
