1999 R* battery-- I need one 4 Years, 6 Months ago
Hey all!!! Happy Saturday. My 1999 Roadstar's battery is a little weak and I'm looking to replace it. This cold weather is really doing it in. Is there someplace I can get one besides a Yamaha dealer?? I'm located in Baltimore MD. Around here there are Pep Boys, Autozone, WalMart, Sears and a few multi brand motorcyle shops/dealers.
Sunday should be in the 50's and Monday close to 60. I'm going to go VROOM VROOM!! Ride hard but safe--have a great weekend all!!

I replaced mine back in April and after spending about an hour on the net and making phone calls trying to find a good deal on one I finally found one in an unlikely place: My dealer.

They had a YTX20HL-BS Yuasa in stock and it was $78 before tax. I had them add the acid and seal it up with the intent of putting it on a charger when I got home. (Dealer said it would take 3 hours to charge it).

I put it on the charger when I got him and 10 min later the indicator on the charger said it was done. I installed the battery, and fired up the bike with no problem. It's been a powerhouse ever since. AGM technology and 310 cold cranking amps, so I am pleased as punch.

Yuasa is the brand I would get. I bet you have a batt distributor local and save you a couple bucks. Plus if you should have a problem they could handle it. Most will take a card over the phone and have it charged and do a cycle test on it. So you pick and go. Check your yellow pages.

Just wondered why Yuasa? I've had parts guys tell me to get the Parts Unlimited batteries to save money for something just as good as the Yuasa's.

I've found Yuasa to be 50-70% higher priced depending on where you price.

Contact Clifford here on the clinic. We all get parts 10% above cost I believe and there's a whole string of people here who will vouch for him.

Here's the link to his thread in the vendors section http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/id,78198/catid,50/

YUASA is the best when it comes to motorcycle batteries! I can't say anything about Parts Unlimited batteries because I don't have an account with them. However, Tucker Rocky sells Yuasa and has their own house brand, and basically you get half the quality for half the price! Tucker has seven warehouses around the country they will ship directly to you from the nearest warehouse.

Sometimes you get what you pay for. The batt. I found to be the best time and again is the yuasa. I understand wanting to save money. But I have had different batt. and wished I spent the extra. The cold crank is great that was the problem with the others. If the parts unlimited is a Yuasa under their brand you got a deal. This is just my opinion. I'm sure if you do a compare on search you will find the same.
