Custom roadstar chopper/ Electrical nightmare 2 Years, 12 Months ago
Hello~ I am building a custom Redneck Engineering Roadstar. I have completed the bike, but ran into a snag. The wiring harness ended up in a hornets nest and had to be pieced together using the wiring diagram. Everything works fine, but we cannot get spark. We have checked all of the safety switches (neutral, clutch, kickstand)all seem to be wired correct. Any ideas?

The hall effect sensor or I think yamaha calls it the pick up coil, it provides the timing signal to the ignitor to fire the coils.

How is your wiring project coming along? I also have a wiring project that I cant get any spark. I'm about to give up and take it to someone. I am using a Thunder Heart wiring harness and incorporating it with the ECM and I'm finding that most of the Yamaha dealers don't know about customs, and are unfamiliar with wiring. The thunder heart is supposed to condense all the relays, flashers, and other bulky parts of the stock wiring harness to make an easier build.

I spent countless hours trying to figure out why i had no spark and y it wouldnt start during my chopper build. I was confident I had done a clean job but it would only turn over and not spark or go into ignition. In the end I was offered a Dyna 2000 ignition module and I hooked it up, within minutes my 2 and a half year project was running and I was able to finally ride it and no longer push it around my driveway. I am not sure why the bike would not start but this I do know. I had proper amps ,ohms and volts everywhere it was needed, I replaced anything in the path of swithes and relays and my coils were perfect. The Dyna ignition was the only source that ignited the bike and I have no clue why till this day. I wish I was there to help you diagnose this just to find out if there was something I could of done differant. Good Luck
