Fuel Pump Relay Part # 2 Years, 7 Months ago
Before anyone asks, YES, I did search here first...and got referenced to one post...and it was mine.

I'm putting the passing lamps on a relay--they're wired direct to battery now with a thumb rocker switch on the bars, so I have to remember to turn them off. I could use a generic 30 amp relay and tuck it away somewhere, but in an effort to reduce clutter (visible or otherwise) I thought I'd replace the fuel pump relay that went bad and just use the fuel pump connector plug, which is just tucked up for now, for the lamps' power source.

Does anyone know the OEM part # (it somehow rubbed off mine or was stripped off with some cleaner or I dunno), or better yet one I could get cheaply from an auto parts store that will work and plug in in place of the original? I find it hard to believe Yami would go to the trouble to make a special relay just for that.

I already have a spare relay that came with my second Stebel horn and the relay never got used, so I could use that for free, or an off the shelf generic one from AutoZone is a few bucks...so I imagine an OEM from Yami would be about $99 and take a week to get here...

TIA,

RK

Thanks, Doc! One question...from what I was able to research, the relays, for whatever reason, are different for the 1600s & 1700s (shouldn't a 30 amp relay work the same on both? )

Although, mine IS an '04 1700, which means I have the 1600's super-anemic charging system as opposed to the 1700s plain anemic one. Is that the part # for the 1600 relay, and would mine use the same as the 1600 or the one for the 1700?

Thanks again--

The part number I gave you was from a 1600. Yamaha sometimes changes part numbers for different years although the part has not changed and they may change part number if the supplier changes.

Would there be a difference between the 1600 and 1700 relays .... I don't think so ... but that conjecture on my part as I've never had the two in hand.

The testing procedure for the 1700 relay is the same as the 1600 so I suspect they are the same.

Can I call it or can I call it? $69.95...for a relay.

Granted, it's genuine Yamaha OEM, but STILL...looks like I may go with the clutter after all.
