Your decompression solenoid is the problem.

Well, deciphering the code will give you something to do while you're waiting for help getting the bike off of you ! ! !

There is no trouble code with 3 flashes. 8 is for fuel sending unit. A 29 code is for Fuel injected bike, which is not your bike. FI came out in 2008 Roadies. Your bike is a carb.

edit, my mistake, 3 flash is TPS

Why would a 29 (or 38)code be for only FI bikes???? I have a decompression solenoid on my bike. It's a 2003. I don't get the codes like the newer bikes, but i still have the parts.

There is a self diagnostic mode that can be run. Here are the instructions from the service manual along with the error codes. These are for a 2K8 R*. Hope this helps.

Re:Engine Light 4 Months, 1 Week ago
Fuel injected bikes, which began in "08" have additional sensors: oxygen sensors for one, computer control for fuel injectors. Also though I am not sure of, but I think a display shows the sctual numerical number to the fault. Unlike the carb models which use the flash code. Think about it, you think you're gonna count 30 flashes of a tiny light?

Earlier models only have 4 codes that cause blinking, me bad there is a code for 3 flashes

3 flash............TPS unit (throttle position sensor)
4 flash............speed sensor
6 flash............solenoid
8 flash...........fuel sensor

The first 3 use the light on the right side of dash to flash
The fuel sendor causes the gas low level light to flash 8 times.

With 2 codes being flashed, I bet he worked on the bike and screwed something up when putting it back together. I've been on the RS forum for many yrs, never have I seen 2 trouble codes come up at same time.
