Electrical Issues 11 Months, 1 Week ago
Hey Fellas,
Heres the issue....Rode to work the other day, was supposed to be sunny according to the weatherman, but of course it rained for half a day, with my bike sittin out in pouring rain. Well, about 4-5 hours later I get on the bike to come home, and at the time everything seemed ok, I get about half way home and I go to push one of my pushbuttons on my gas tank console to go to Trip B, and neither buttons work. I push both buttons and the time flashes, which is normal, but I can't do anything after that. Then the next day, I look down and my gas gauge is on E and I had just filled up. So once I got where I was going, I switched the key off then on and the needle just jumps around an then goes to E(actually past). Also the little window for the speedometer on the gas tank is foggin up and is making condensation on the inside. I'm guessin I shorted something or blew a fuse. Does anybody have any suggestions? Sorry its so long....Thanks,
CJC

When a fuse blows, nothing on that circuit will do anything. So if the needles wiggle then the fuse isn't blown.

Check all your fuses. Something like this happened to another member and it was (i think) his turn signal fuse.

I would check the battery cable connections. You may have some moisture between the battery terminals and cables. I'd take them off, clean them, maybe wait overnight and apply some dielectric grease to the terminals and reconnect the cables, then see what happens.

Ok, I took the speedo all apart and it was a little wet inside. I let it sit inside overnight and day. I just reinstalled it and still nothing. My needles don't move when I first turn the key, and my odo and clock are blank. I unplugged the green connector at the base of the tank, but still nothing. I checked all fuses as well as the 2 main fuses. Is there a fuse for the display, or gauges? Thanks for any help

It's probably fried now.

For some reason water got inside. When you turned it on you shorted out the connections.

You could try sealing the dash in a plastic bag with silica gel but I have my doubts that it will work again.

When I took it all apart the black plastic ring was cracked on both sides. I don't know if that was a player or not, but I didn't know it was cracked till I took it all apart. I bet those are pricey. I'll start lookin on Ebay. Thanks,

Before you put the put the dash back on .... shove a thin screwdriver down the drain tube ... just to make sure it's not plugged.
