Only red lens by law can stay on all the time in the rear.

You're OK. Legally, the rear lights have to be red to stay on. You can do a conversion to red burning bulbs and add a running light conversion (several options to do this).
On my bike I converted all signals to LED clusters, added smoked lens on the signals (and brake), added a Kuryakyn run-turn-brake controller, and a Tricky signal relay. They Kury kit adds running lights and a flashing brake (flashes 3 times on the brake and signal rears). The Tricky provides the DOT flash rate (and 3 other flash patterns) and eliminates the need for a load equalizer to slow the rate of the LEDs. This setup greatly improves visibility running and braking.
See my sig pic.

Play that link, I bought a cool kit at dealer, Has round LED's and clear lens covers to replace factory ones and the LED's silicone to the new lens covers and this is what you get. Good instructions and simple to wire. Only bear was running the wire through the tube to the tail light area, Took me like 30 min 1st side and I wised up on second side, left it together and used a Mig Wire to fish it through in 3 minutes. Gigantic improvement in visibility. Less than $100 I think like $60 but I could be wrong.

You can buy a pair of front turnsignal units and replace the original rears with them; then you will have running lights; you will have to use either a red bulb with a clear or smoke lens or use a clear bulb with a red lens. You can also use a "run, turn, brake controller"; they will make the original unit work as a running light and a brake light as well as a turn signal (still needs to be red).

After buying my bike I put a Kuryakyn RTB on it with red bulbs and smoked lens for the signals. After the fourth failure of the RTB (on my bike + several customers) I gave up on the RTB. I now have an LED on the sissy backrest and a license frame with lights on all four sides, and I put front signals on the rear. I now have eight taillights, four stop lights, and two signals each direction.
