I think I found the answer to your problems right here all you need is that computer and your set! You can send emails while on that long ride and keep the RSC up to date on your progress!!

Link didn't work...

You didn't specify a price point, so I'm going to recommend the Garmin Zumo 550 (they also have a 500 and a 400 I think)

It does the nav as well as audio and handfree cell phone usage...here is a review---I've never heard of these people, but the review has good pictures:

It will also let you upload routes as you desire.

Sweet GPS, I might have to reconcider my Tom Tom Rider??? Do you know how much?

You can get them in the 500-600 range

I have a Gamin Zumo 550 and it is awesome. It does everything you could possibly need. If you decide on one of these, shop online, there are deals out there, just make sure it is new. I saved a bunch.

I've had the Garmin Zumo 550 for about 6 months and it is designed for motorcycle use and works very well!

I own 2 Garmin 260W and love them. They are fairly cheap ($170) have a 4.3" screen, text to speech. Easy to use and very accurate (IMO)
I have not mounted on my bike cause I like riding where ever. I do put one in my saddlebag though.

Do you have a power wire running to it in the bag, or do you just have it "just in case you get lost"? I've been thinking of this too, for the just in case, for the "find gas station" or (and I don't know if they can do this) to rememberize a ride/route so I can go back later. I occasionally ride with a different club, and have no idea where in WI we are, where we've been or how to get home. Although I imagine that I could eventually find my way home...pretty soon I'd get hungry or tired.

To clarify, my question: will a GPS in a saddlebag be able to remember a route? thanks

If you just want to make your way back the way you came or go straight to a point, the garmin etrex legend are cheap, small and fit in your tool bag. That's all I carry, it has a map of large roads which you can upgrade online for your area to get 'ALL' roads, it also lays a track of where you've been.

Doesn't talk though, lol

I'm not spending $500 for a gps of any kind I have a Garmin 250 that is made for the car. I have ram mount and love them both. I don't need water proof if it starts raining I am going to stop take it off an put in the saddle bags anyway. I will wait till it stops raining to ride. I got mine new at Tiger direct and the newer ones have a lot more bells and whistles. Me I just need to get where I'm going.

I bought a refurb Garmin Streetpilot 2720 along with the wiring hookup for a motorcycle for about $225 (those things ran up to over $1100 new!) a while back. All kinds of features and accurate as heck, also weather resistant. Fun tool.

very interesting...I was led to believe by some fellow motorcyclists that an automotive unit would fail due to the extra vibration produced by a motorcycle.

Thanks for your responses.
