Almost, but not quite 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Ok, so I got the apes wired and installed ...i switched everything on and it all works except for the right turn signal and the light bar (aftermarket) any ideas? I'm checking the fuses now.

If you connected wires with an empty beer can nearby, thats probably your problem right there. You should never have less than half a beer when hooking up a 12 volt circuit. Check at the bulbs and see which one your lacking ( positive or ground ). No sense back tracking until you get that one down. You might find power on both sides of one bulb and ground on both sides of another. That should at least tell you where to start. If you lack power or ground at any connection, then you have an open circuit. If you pulled wires through the bars, then pray you didn't pull one loose. Remember, no less than half a beer. Once it hits less than half. CHUG!

Hmmm, I pulled wires through the bars. Guess i didn't pray enough or drink enough... ... The front amber lights both come on but only the left blinker works. what are my options if i pulled one or two of the wires loose ?

did you check voltage to the circuits in question, at the bulbs

No but I will hit that tomorrow, now it is time for I'm afraid I yanked it loose getting it through those bars. Knew I should've bought the 1.25" bars .

Ok, I checked the circuit at the sockets and there is continuity. I checked the wires in the turn signal circuit at the switch and at the end of the wires and all show continuity (Chocolate, Brown/White, Dark Green, Black, Yellow/Red). I checked the pairings according to the diagram.

The Service Manual has continuity between the Chocolate and Brown/White wires BUT they are not in the same plug

Still at a loss, no Right Turn Signal and no Passing lamps.

Should I check the turn signals at the sockets with the power on and switch activated? Will that tell me more?

Ok. You've established all of the wires are connected. Right? Now check for positive and negative. Continuity is only part of the equation. We know the wires are hooked up. But, we need to know if the wires have their proper polarity. Do the wires that are supposed to have positive, have positive voltage? Do the wires that are supposed to have ground, have ground? Its possible that a ground is swapped with a positive in your splices. The turn signal switch gets positive voltage from the relay. That relay supplies power to either turn signal. If the left works, the switch is getting voltage. Does the right rear turn work? If so, your fault may be the connector for the green wire to the front turn signal. If the right rear doesn't work, then its your splices, or your switch. Again if your left side works, it's not a ground fault at the switch.

If continuity means connection, all of the switch related wires are connected (to the best of my knowledge).

Both front and rear signals on the left side work. That means I'm getting voltage to the switch.

Neither of the right side signals work. Both amber lights on the light bar work, the right one just doesn't blink when it is supposed to.

So, it is my splice you think? Based on the plug diagram (pg 7-7 of the service manual) can I assume that the problem wire is the Dark Green wire? The others (Chocolate, Brown/White, Black, Yellow/Red) are involved at the left signal (which works). Am I making a false assumption?

Would the Dark Green wire show continuity if the splice was bad?

If you have continuity on the green wire from the switch to the bulb socket, then it sounds like it's either the switch itself or it's grounded inside the bars.

check to see if you get continuity thru the bars..if so, dead short somewhere..
