I don't know what year bike you have. But on my 07 if I remove the lic plate there is a wire junction box behind the plate . The lic plate covers the box. It has all the wires in it that go to the rear of the bike. I don't remember what color wires to use but you sould be able to trace them out easy enough. So start by pulling your lic plate. BTW I didn't use my lic plate light wire for the tail light. I tapped right into the tail light wire but inside the junction box.

Separate the plug, use a continuity tester. Turn on the key and locate the tail light/run wire. Hold down the brake to find the brake wire. bill

blue is taillight, yellow is brake light, black is ground.
