08 RoadStar S signal light fuse blows 1 Year, 11 Months ago
My signal light fuse blew and knocked out power to all other lights except the speedometer, any ideas of what could be causing this fuse to blow and should it knock out the head light, that fuse is good. Replaced the signal light fuse and rode about 20 miles and the new one burned out also. Any help ideas would be appreciated.

The only thing done to it was a new clutch put on a week ago at the Yamaha dealer in Wichita, KS. 34000 miles and no problem until now?

With a good turn signal fuse installed, check the following:

1. Does your brake light work when you actuate your rear brake? Yes? No?
2. Does your brake light work when you actuate your front brake? Yes? No?
3. Does both horns work? Yes? No?
4. Does your turn signals work? Yes? No?
5. Does your neutral light work? Yes? No?

If the fuse blows when actuating any of these components, you have a short to ground in the circuit for that component.

If you find no fault when actuating any of these components, we will need to take it one step at a time from there. Post your findings here. We will find the problem.

With a new fuse, the brake light works from the rear and front brakes, both horns work, the turn signals all work and the neutral light works with or without the new fuse. I appreciate your help!

In the relay unit, there is a diode with a Blue/Yellow wire going to it. Check the diode. In order to make sure you are not reading back through the circuit, you need to isolate the diode from the circuit by taking the wires off the diode.

1. Voltage meter set to ohms, or if you have diode setting, set to diode setting.
2. Put one meter lead on one side of the diode and the other lead on the other side of the diode. Note whether you have continuity or not. Swap the leads around and check again.
3. You should have continuity one way and no continuity when you swap the meter leads around.

If that diode checks good, check the other diode with the black/Yellow wire in the relay unit.

If you have continuity both ways, the diode is bad. If you have no continuity either way, the diode is bad.
