Rev limit mph on 1700 ? 1 Year, 11 Months ago
anyone know what MPH or KPH I should be hitting the rev limit on a 04 1700 stock ignition and stock pulley in 2 nd 3 rd or 4th gear ?
Have gone pumpless and just want to be sure im not starving for fuel rather than hitting the limiter .
Thanks

I have an 04 silverado and it limits out in 3rd gear at around 85mph. I don't have the nerve to find out where it limits out in 4th. Getting old and want to get older.

imo, I don't think ya would in 4th. I have the 1600, at one time I had the carb tuned I'd hit 99 in 3rd, but I'm not in tune since I made a few changes, so down to about 92

The gear does not matter it is the rpms that sets the limit.I think it cuts the rear cylinder but I too am suffering from old fart dementia so someone will correct me if needed ...Coug ahhhhh see......I do not know what the cut out is as per mph

in third im assuming ?

Yes all I realize its RPM limited , all im looking for is the MPH in a given gear that it cuts out , third seems to be the logical choice saftey wise !! NO TACH !!

thanks to all though for their thoughts ,

I have an 03 and I have a tach. 2000 RPM gets 20 MPH in 1st gear, 30 in 2nd gear, 40 in 3rd gear, 50 in 4th gear and 60 in 5th gear. Since we have gears a chain and a cog belt for the drive train there is no slippage and it is a direct ratio & proportion to figure things out. Going through the gears at 4200 RPM will get you 42, 63, 84, 105, and 126 MPH. I believe the newer bikes have 4750 for the limit RPM and going through the gears at 4750 RPM will get you 47.5, 71.25,95, 118.75, and 142.5 MPH. On my own bike I have hit the limit in first and second gears and haven't tried in the other gears.

That might work for my 1700, with a 33 on the front pulley, but what about the stock 1700s with a 32?

This speed calculator is pretty cool.
