Unplug AIS? 1 Year, 10 Months ago
Hi guy's and gal's,

I have a 2009 RS and have installed aftermarket pipes on it. I know that the AIS pipes should be blocked off, but when looking at the system why can't you just unplug the wiring connector and forget it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can do that and block the hoses, and if you find you need to reconnect everything for emissions inspection, it just takes a minute to do. A lot of us take it off to open up the front and reduce a bit of extra weight.

Steve:

I'm not sure what simply unplugging the electical would do. I assume the AIS is simply an electric valve that opens and closes to allow a puff of oxygen to be inserted into the pipes for a final burn of fuel vapor. Don't know if unplugging it leaves that valve open or closed...

If you're not willing to pull it off, you can simply put a 1/2" bolt in the end of each hose or find some way to cap them. Regardless, if you're changing exhaust, you'll have to do one or the other.

And, before you ask. A PCIII or fuel processor is not needed to add a new exhaust or new intake on the 2008-2010...

I unplugged mine and plugged it off, and its a big difference. I have roadburner 3"stepped straights on mine and huge difference in the decel pop. Also I do know that mine was running very lean, I dont know why, I had asked my local dealer when i had it in last time and they said that it was fine. However, when i took it to the other dealer they were concearned. So I went ahead and bought the power commander 5. They couldnt adjust out the decel pop and said that i would have to live with it, in turn i told the guy, ok i think that its the AIS, and IM going to take it off. He wanted me to let him know how it went on monday. So I will, hopefully yamaha will get a call from him and we can get this crap fixed. There is no reason that we should have to live with decel pop and lean hot bikes, if we dont have to.

Re:Unplug AIS? 1 Year, 10 Months ago
I tried unplugging the electrical plug first but air still sucked into the engine. Next I removed the rubber hoses where they attach to the chrome tubes and plugged them with allen screws that fit inside the hoses tightly and reattached them to the chrome tubes. That did it !! Later I checked the hoses and water had collected from condensation inside the tubes so I removed all of it and saved the parts incase I'm forced to put them back on .
Hope this helps
