say what you will but one more reason I wish they would put a kick-start on bikes again lol -
I miss the days I could start a bike with a dead battery with the kickstart

Greenpus,2x on the return to kick starters.

But then they would sell less batteries making less money so we will never see them again T that's not to mention the weight reduction and cost savings so there's more profit for mfg when not installing a manual kick start too.

Had the time to test a brand new freshly charges Yuassa YTX20HL-BS against the Odyssey PC545 in the bike. The Odyssey is about 1.5 years old but kept in good state so that may have affected the results some.

Yuassa - 542 CCA
Odyssey - 363 CCA

Yuassa - 304 DIN
Odyssey - 208 DIN

Tried to find the significance between CCA and Din but could not find any info but still posted it.

Regards,
Terry

Re:Smaller battery for roadstar 2 Years, 10 Months ago
Hi Terry,Thanks for doing that test and the info.

I have a fairly new digital battery load tester so just i tested the 1 yr old Deka AGM battery that prior owner of my bike installed before i bought & it showed as having 525CCA even though its a std repl YTX20L-BS battery that supposed to be only 275CCA.

But since the air temp & battery was approx 75-80 deg when tested thats why its showing more CCA then if the batt was actually at o deg f temp where a batteries true CCA is tested at & not at the much warmer 75-80 deg temp it was tested at.

So the Yuasa thats rated at 310 cca came in at 542CA at room temp which makes sence, the odyssey comming it at a weak 363 doesnt surprise me at all, going by its design spec even being 1yr old it should do a lot better then it did . I was never that impressed whith that type design battery but it does have its place in some appas, thats for sure. But IMHO the Odyssey batt isnt the best choice for a R* for reasons i stated earlier in this post.

Maybe you can hook the original poster up with the slightly smaller batt he's looking for that will fit/work with the mods he's making to his R and still have enough umph to start it esp when the starter & motor are is all heat soaked in hot weather.

If he hasn't done so already he should also consider removing the very small /thin guage stock battery cables and installing larger ones for max current flow to the starter if you guys @ Phatt perf have them avail.

I already did the mod to my 06 R* and it now spin's over a bit faster cold & hot.

The stock battery cables on the R* are slightly smaller then the batt cables on my riding mower with a 10hp techumseh ,something's wrong with that picture, thats for sure.(LOL!!)

Hi.

I have the same problem. I have a spring seat setup and need lower battery. So is there any other options than Odyssey for that 1" less height?
Thanks

If you had a fuel injected bike with a dead battery you could kick that bike till the second coming and never get it started. Gotta have the battery to fire the injectors.

I have a `99 xv1600 with carburetor and converted to vacuum fuel pump. I need to replace my old batter, and need lower in height. So is there any other options than Odyssey 545?
Thanks

I have the Odyssey in mine for the lower height you can lay it on its side if you want real low. It's a great battery I've had no problems even at below freezing starts which I did quite a few mornings last fall.
