I have read about different batteries for the R* but they were all for older models. Apparently the 08 and newer use a smaller battery. Anyone have a suggestion for me? I think I am going to need one soon as I still have the original in the bike now.

The battery size for the carb & EFI models are different.

Positive & Negative posts are reversed.

I pulled my battery and the measurements are Length:6", Width:2 3/4", Height: 5 3/4"
12Ah x 10hr. It's a Yuasa GT14B-4. I believe it's a 160 cca.

I found a couple from different places with CCA's anywhere from 135 to 210. I would like the highest CCA's I can find. I will check some more to see if I can find anything else.

The Yuasa site lists the YT14B-BS as the replacement battery for the FI models and it is a lot smaller. 210 CCA, 152 X 70 X 145 mm's.

===================

Whats # (maybe YTX20HL-BS/YT14B-4) battery currently in your bike?

I went to Dekas website they list same battery for 2004-09 RS,i pasted below what the Deka website stated for your 2008 RS.

ETX20L Battery 2009-2004 1

I also went to 2 other bike battery websites and by application they also listed same battery (YTX20HL-BS = DEKA ETX20L BOTH 310CCA) for older my 06 RS) & your newer (08 RS) .

So thats 3 websites that list same battery for your 08 and older R's so it looks like your newer 08 RS uses same battery as older RS's unless they all ref the same application chart that happens to have a mistake in it.

I say that because i found a 4th site that listed YT14B-4 & GT14B4 GS as the battery for an 08 RS so you need to chk # on the battery in your bike to be sure.

So heres a link to Deka's great high perf AGM maint free 310CCA ETX20L battery thats ready to go when ya get it for $77.95 to your door in 1-2 days tops!

http://www.tristatebattery.com/etx20l-deka-powersport-battery-p-981.html?manufacturers_id=14

Heres 2 more links to to the 2 other pt# batteries i found listed for your 08 RS .

http://www.batterystuff.com/search.html?q=GT14B4

http://www.batterystuff.com/search.html?q=yt14b-4

So in summary depending on what the PT# is on the battery currently in your bike i should have you covered with above links for good quality replacement hi perf AGM batteries that are ready to go as recieved that are priced considerably cheaper then at autozone/advanced auto/Yami bike shop that show up at your door 1-3 days max post ordering.

Deka battery ETX20L will not fit. Too big and terminal posts are reversed.

FYI,I already sent you 2 links to that battery (GT14B-4) at great prices in my 1st post in this thread.

They are actually an upgrade over stock with additonal CCA's at a significantly lower price then locally at auto parts store or local yami dealer whan talking the same type hi perf AGM upgraded battery with more CCA so chk them out.

BTW,YT14B-4 & GT14B4 are the same battery ,1st is Yuasa battery pt# and other is GS battery pt# but are the same battery and you will see both pt#'s reff in the linlks i sent you.

They are the hi perf 210 or is it 220CCA versions vs stock that i think is just under 200cca @ approx 160CCA or so but arnet 100% sure of that.

But either way the stock battery for an 08 RS seems kinda weak even for a low comp lrg 1700cc v-twin motor with a comp release.

For the lrg savings those online bike battery suppliers provide over buying a new hi perf battery locally its worth the 1-3 day max wait if you order early in wk & not on wk end.

Good luck.

That seems to be the case and its strange how not only the Deka battery site states ETX20L fits 08 RS 2 other sites that sell bike betteries also stated the same thing when it's obviously wrong.

I ended up going to 2 diff Yami websites to look up a new battery for his 08 RS and thats where i found the correct YT14B-4 (MFG is Yuasa) & GT14B4 (MGF is GS) battery pt#'s for an 08 RS.

I checked the owner's manual and it calls for the ytx14 battery. I will check whats in the bike before ordering a new one just to be sure. What got me though is the fact that a F.I. 1700 is running the same battery as my 2000 Shadow 750. I really appreciate all the help from everyone. I could have actually looked at the battery in the bike but I was being lazy and I didn't expect to find wrong information in different websites about which battery is the correct one. Thanks again everyone.

Found those sites earlier myself I just didn't get around to posting them. Thanks. Seems to be lots of misinformation on websites when it comes to listing the correct battery size for the 08's and up. Since its been just a bit over the 4 year mark since the size has changed some batteries will start to give out and people will start ordering. Will be cheaper to list the correct sizes and keep a customer happn than have to pay triple shipping to fix the mistake.

FYI: Scorpion Battery web site lists the wrong battery (YTX20HL) for the 08 & 09. YT14B-4 is the correct one. I've talked with them this past winter and relayed the correct size. Who know, maybe they will correct this.

Also Battery Mart lists the YT14B-4 as a 135cca battery. I asked about this and they are checking into it.

From all my searching 210 is the highest CCA battery I can come up with. Unless you go with a Ballistic or other high performance battery. The stock one, even though lower CCA, has plenty of power so I can imagine the 210 cca will be seem like a pretty good step up without breaking the bank.

I just purchased a Yuasa, it is the stock battery recommended on the Yuasa Web Site. Yuasa makes an upgrade that has 310 CCA, but I opted for the standard to save a few bucks, I paid $109 Canadian funds (everything is cheaper in the USA). The 310 CCA was $137.

Powerpak makes batteries for Roadstar's and they are less expensive. I have not had good experiences with Powerpak in the past, they tend to die prematurely (however I have read that they have improved significantly over the past couple of years).
