Hard Starting 1 Year ago
For the past couple of days, the bike has been hard starting... lagging at the starter it seems to me... so I checked the charging system... it is charging at 14.15v... so no issue there... I let the bike sit overnight and checked the charge on the battery and it was at 12.23v... a little low... should maintain around 12.6v... so Im thinking a new battery is in order... I was looking at battery threads and saw where the Deka AGM is getting some good reviews at 310cca... so I am thinking about one of those... what are some other good AGM type batteries and where can I find the best price?

I just got a new Deka and like it, but really couldn't tell a difference from my Motobatt which was only about a year old. If you want my motobatt I will let it go for shipping, but its quit heavy. Just let me know. Everyone give good reviews one the Deka battery, so I will keep that one for now.

I've been chewing on the idea of a new Ballistic.
Any opinions about those. *I KNOW their expensive!*
So let's take that out of the equation.

Do they last? Are they reliable? Any annoying problems or quirks?

Heres what you want at a great price /$77.95 to your door saving approx $45 over buying same battery at auto parts store & save even more vs Yami dealer price.

Theres absolutley no need to spend so much for a Ballistic battery if you have a stock low comp R* motor.

But if you install high comp pistons and thats an app i'd think about using a battery that costs that much along with installing a hi trq starter & larger battery-starter cables with a warrior solenoid at the same time too.

I have had deka's ETX20L HI perf AGM battery in my 06 R* for rougly 3 yrs with no starting problems thus far.

I had to unexpetedly move/fire up the bike this past winter in 30-35 deg temp with heavy 20-50 oil in it and it fired up no problem and i didn't have the maint charger on it for at least month at that point too. My bike has stock starter but i did install the larger MaxAir battery/starter cables & also treated fuel with marine grade sta-bil prior to storing bike too.

I asked the supplier how fresh the batteries were and they said 1-2months old max,i recently ordered a battery from them late March 2012 for another bike and mfg date on the battery i got 1 day after ordering showed it was mfg'd B2 = Feb 2012 per Dekas website.

Pasted below is the link to Deka's hi perf 310CCA(stock only 270cca) AGM maint free factory activated battery along with other info on it pasted below the link .

You should install larger battery-starter cables to compliment the higher output battery & if/when starter gets tired go for a hi trq replacement starter at that point too.

I have never heard of the motobatt... so, i looked it up... seems about the same... just has the liquid AGM... how much would shipping be to Murphy, NC 28906? oh, and thank you!

Its quiet heavy, so I thank $20.00 should do it. Just let me know. I bought it for over $100.00, but don't need it anymore, so best thing would be to give it to someone who can use it on the clinic.
