OK, I could change the speedo sensor, but what about the speedo-needle-sweep? Shouldn't the needle sweep even if the sensor is bad?

One more thing, I turn on my key, the gas gauge needle sweeps, then reads 3/4 tank (correct), then the gas LED blinks 8 times. What the hell?? Isn't the LED supposed to blink only if the gas gauge is not working?

Is there an electrical schematic that would show the wiring for this? Can anyone hep? Also, are there any electronics between the sensor and the gauge? Some sort of chip, maybe?

The fuel light blinking is a trouble code. Means the fuel level detection circuit is defective.

I think it means just the low level light part is bad.

Polishdog, I'm going from the owners manual for my 08. Yours could be different but mine does say 8 flashes.

One more thing. My speedo quit working too but the needle would still sweep when I turned the key on. Not really sure how I fixed it, I just checked every electrical connection I could find. Poked and wiggled and whatever and it started working again. I haven't had any more trouble but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Re:Speedo and fuel gauge issues 1 Year ago
my 99 silverado started the fuel light 8 blinks a while back. The gauge still worked well for several months--then started being erratic, would show 3/4 after filling up--then drop to 1/4, then back to 3/4 and so on. Now the gauge doesn't work at all--stays on empty, light still blinks 8 times. I go by when I turn to reserve, and start looking for fuel within about 30 miles. So maybe the 8 blinks is fuel sending unit trouble is on the way!!! Just my .02$ and opinion. Reserve works well for me, but I'm usually in metropolitan areas.

Okay finally got my Speedo fuel gauge problem solved. It was my speedohealer causing all the problems. I took it out of the system and all works fine. Must be some dirty connectors or just a bad healer. Just thought I would throw this out there for everyone.
