Why wouldn't it restart? 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
This morning on my way to work I stopped at Micky D's for my breakfast, pulling off from the window I stalled it. When I tried to restart it just grunted no turn, I rolled it out of the way turned off every thing I could (spots) and tried again and it started right up. It has a fairly new batt and clean cables, when I got home I ordered the Maxair Flame Wires. If I decide to replace the batt I am going to the 310cc batt, where did you guy & girls that have them buy yours.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I notice you have a 2001.
if the spots have 55w bulbs then the stator can't keep up with them at idle and your battery is not charging at idle so it goes dead.

My spots are 75 watts, I have 50 watt bulbs that I have to put in yet. Can I put a stronger stator or voltage regulator in to fix it?

You have to replace both stator and reg. I replaced mine with a 2005 which puts out more amps than the 2001.
If you want to test your stator/reg to prove my point. Start your bike with the spots on and run a volt meter across your battery and see it not charging at idle. Then turn spots off and see it charge.
This can be an issue if you do a lot of slow riding in town and hit several stoplights or whatever. The only way the battery will recharge is if you do a lot of highway riding or you make sure you put the bike on a battery tender. Even with that, my battery went bad after a year and I'm not sure if it was caused by me buying a cheap scorpian battery or if it was caused by the battery being undercharged.

can't run 75w lamps. not only are they pulling way to much amps, the wire gauge is too thin.
