Fuses are a built in weakness, designed to fail, if anyone is using a larger fuse than what is specified, than there is a problem in the circuit.
Such as short to ground or bad connection. Using larger amp fuses will lead to letting the factory smoke out...  |

And everybody knows small arms ammunition and electronics/electrical products are both totally used up for the day when you let the smoke out of them!  |

I think the reason they use 14 volt bulbs is because that's about what the charging system is putting out running down the road. I've only had to replace one in all these years and that was back when the bike was new. The 12 volts will work but probably burn brighter. And the lower the voltage the lower the watts. At 12 volts the 14 volt bulbs would consume about 1.4 watts.
Most sensors on the bike, like the TPS, receive a 5 volt reference voltage. Whether that also pertains to the meter I don't know. What I have observed is that when the battery voltage drops to around 5 volts during starting the meter resets. |

5 volts is pretty standard for reference voltage on most cars, trucks, and bikes. Have to wonder if that is sourced somewhere else, like the ignition module. Guess I'll study a wiring diagram for a bit!

5v reference is standard for a TPS (car,truck, motorcycle) as well as .2 to .9v for o2 sensors. |
