fuel gauge incorrect 8 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi guys... new guy here and first time metric owner.

I just got a 2006 Roadie Midnight and this is my first bike with a fuel gauge. It showed a 1/4 tank so I went to fill it and it's already full. Any thoughts before I tear into it? And it isn't stuck. It will do the full sweep to the right before settling back to 1/4.

And yes, I know I never had a gauge for the previous 30+ years but if it's got one I want it to work!

Thanks! Dave

Try disconnecting your battery cable for an hour or so and see if it resets itself. That's the first easy fix.

After a fill up you have to drive a few miles before it registers properly

Maybe some one knows if this happens after sitting for a length of time

Thanks for the quick replies! I'll give the reset a try. The fill up was Saturday and it's still off.

Letting your bike sit with the ignition on but the engine off won't make the fuel gauge move either. That motor needs to be turning to make the gauge register. I found that out after having mine sit for about a month and turning the key and having the gauge at 1/4 tank when I knew it was full. After waiting a few minutes and nothing changing I fired it and let it sit and idle for 10 minutes. Came back and the gauge was at full.

Re:fuel gauge incorrect 8 Months, 1 Week ago
I haven't ridden it a mile yet. I'm waiting on new tires (Avon Venoms) since the rear is pretty much slick. I guess before I do too much to it I need to put some miles on it and get the feel of the bike and see what else is wrong... or right with it

Great replies, guys!
Thanks again!

The gauge will settle and read right after a few minutes of riding, mine does the same thing. I think it comes from letting it set with fuel in it for a few months at a time cause after a few tanks mine responds normally, every year. I don't think you will find much (wrong) with your road star if its a typical bike. It's like a toyota camry or honda accord it's just rare to have may problems, in my opinion, and experience. Good riding.

I have 06 too and the gauge is wacky on it after a fill up. The dealer says its normal and after riding about 5 miles it corrects itself. It always has so far. Good Luck, roadhog1
