WIDER swingarm? 2 Months ago
Just about ready to set up the Liner wheels in my chop and damn if I didn't have a really nice pair of big billet wheels/tires just drop in my lap for a stupid price.
I know I CAN stuff a 250 in the rear of a stock swingarm but it's going to be surgery to do it.
Obviously, the entire rear brake is going to be moved outboard & probably convert to a chain.

Not interested in dropping a $2500 custom swingarm into a $1000 project bike.
Has anyone widened the stock swingarm to fit a big beefy slab of a 250 width wheel in it?

HA! Searching is fun.

Sounds like a lot of work for a wider tire.

Probably not much more work than all the things some do to put bags, fairings, etc on a Roadstar.
I'd already planned on sticking Liner wheels in it so the brake mount is a goner anyway.

I guess I'm about to find out!

Damn ambitious, but will certainly look cool if you can do it.

You could look into a sprocket/rotor combo, I was going to on my sportster, but parts alone were worth more than the bike, so I spent the money buying the roadstar instead!

I know that feeling.
What started as a $500 project has grown a bit but I'm still trying to see just how cheap I can build a really kickass bike for as little money as possible.
It helps that I have no time limit, if it takes 5 years to build it I have no problem with that.
Not having a time factor involved allows me to not only do 100% of the labor myself while working 2 jobs, but gives me the luxury of waiting for the killer deals to pop up on parts. I'm even building shop equipment to do it, like a powder coat oven big enough for a frame, also on the free/cheap.

Back to the Sprotor - I have an eBay notification set up for one of those.
I'd love to use one but it's going to have to be one of those deals that seems to pop up only right after you just paid some bills.

BTW, these are the wheels & tires I got - rubber shows virtually no wear & rims just need a good cleaning.
Front: 80/90-21 Avon Venom on HD billet Softtail wheel with rotor & bearings.
Rear: 250/40-18 Avon Venom on HD billet Softtail wheel with 66t matching billet pulley (not shown) & bearings, no rotor.
Paid $300 for the set, found on Facebook Marketplace about 25 miles from me.

With my +4" forks, these will put my front end trail at about 6.27".
Another thing to consider is that my wheelbase will also change if I keep the taller forks, going from 66.5" to 68.7".
6-1/4" is not outrageously long for trail but I'll have to see how it feels & adjust as needed.
If it feels too heavy I may revert the fork length to stock and bring the trail back down under 6".
