#103619 sos567656765 (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 36 Preventing rust. 1 Month, 1 Week ago   So how do any of you all prevent rust on your bike... I give mine a complete hand washing once a week and have noticed that my less then one month old bike is already starting to get a little rust around the exhaust ports. So far it just washes away every time but i just dont want it to get worse. But, around the exhaust ports... you're at the mercy of the elements! Knocking down and removing rust on chrome involves using "0000" steel wool and plenty of quality wax... (Yeah, put the wax on the steel wool just like a polishing rag... But only on chrome!) As far as rust inside the allen screw holes... Get some screw head covers... For little spots that build up around the gas filler... I use motor oil on a rag to clean the surface and leave a coating... Most of all remember what Neil Young said... I never let it get too dirty. I use the spray cleaner & polish from yamaha. It foams up the dirt and wipe it off with a cloth and leaves a waxed surface when polished. About 7 bucks a can.
