Driver Backrest 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago

Just installed the driver backrest from Grasshopper. Its $100 on Ebay, buy now. Its a very good backrest for the money. Easy to install, took 15 minutes. It is not adjustable but very easy to take off and put on. Took it for a 40 mile test ride and it worked very well.
I got the studded one to match my seat and it looks perfect. Does not get in my wife's way for getting on/off or while riding. When removed, you cannot see the bracket at all.
It definitely supports my back and keeps me sitting straight up. It pushes me about 1/2 inch forward in the seat, but I had reshaped this seat for a longer reach so it should not make a difference on a stock seat. I'm just going to put my regular reach seat back on. It is by far the best drivers backrest value that I have seen out there for a R*.

Could you post a link to the seller of these?
I couldn't find "grasshopper" on e-bay.
Thanks,
Jeff

I believe he is referring to this (wish I would have bought this one LOL). ebay link
However here is the actual company site http://www.grasshopperlimited.com/Yamaha.html and I believe are cheaper with shipping when you buy direct from them. They list a $95 plus I believe around $10 shipping.
Do not buy the backrest I did unless your are well under six foot due to they push you forward several inchs and is to much for me being 6'3". ebay link
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link.
I'm only 5'8", so I should be good to go.

Which one are you looking at getting?? The later ebay link is for one I purchased a few weeks back and will probablly get rid of it since it pushs me to far forward. I installed and it has a few scratchs around where is slides in the modified passenger seat bracket but other than that is good to go. When I purchased it they said no modification needed LOL but when I recieved it I had to cut notches in the mount. So I emailed and threw a fit! Never offered for me to return but they did change there ebay posting to state modification required.
I will try and make my own bracket or go with the grasshopper brand backrest. I think it can be taken on and off easier but not sure.

I saved the Grasshopper link. The studded unit looks like it would fit the look of my bike.

Goodygood, Sorry to hear you had problems with it. I had no problem getting the backrest on my 2000 R*, no modifications. I'm 6'4" and it has only moved me up 1/2 inch. It goes on and off easily with a little practice. My backrest attachment bracket had a long connector slot that let me adjust it somewhat before I tightened the rear seat bracket back down. It looks like the limitation for a tall rider may be the front edge of the passenger seat keeping the backrest from sliding deeper. I may end up shaving off some of leading edge of the passenger seat, but I want to try a long ride first. It feels strange sitting so upright but I know my back will be better for it (makes my belly smaller to). I'll get a picture of the bike with the backrest for review.

NO I dont have the same one you got Papa Bear. I suckered into another one on ebay that was suppose to require no modification to mount but when I got it I had to alter the passenger seat bracket by cutting notches at bottom for bar to slide in. Also stated it was triple plated chrome LOL what ever since the slightest touch while sliding it in place scrapped all the chrome of the edge of bar LOL!!!
I should have went with the one like you got but was not all that in favor of the half moon shape. However it looks better the more I see it on the bike.
How easy does it remove. It looks like it should remove easy after first intall but the direction on their site show it on another bike not a roadstar.
Will probably buy one from them (grasshopper) as soon as I get over being stuck with the one I bought LOL!!
