Has this noise happen to anyone 3 Months ago
When i hit bumps a certain way i get a loud snap/clack, Does not happen every time but when it does it sounds like she is going to snap in half.Acouple months back repacked neck bearings rechecked still good no play there. motor mounts tight only thing i found was some free play when i put a bar on swingarm no side to side movement but some up and down looks like lower end of wishbone has a little play is that normal? Has this happen to anybody? Am i looking in the right direction? Any advise would be helpful. Thanks in advance if anyone can help it will be this forum. Thanks again

In the depts of the forum is an article on frame cracks. I believe it was close to the dog bone(near the rear shoch& spring) . The second article to look for is in the tips and it deals with the older *s like my 2000 had an issue with the rear fender cracking. The article is how to reinforce it. I have started to hear this sound more often also I just waiting for a free day to get her on the lift to see whats up. Good luck my friend hope it is just the belt guard.

If it is the belt guard, does anyone have recommendations on what to do about it besides scrapping it all together?

Mine used to make that noise when I first got it, but it has since stopped. I'd love to know what caused it. And like yours, only on big bumps.

If it's a belt guard clang, you can put a piece of felt pad between the guard and the frame.

It sounds like this problem is bigger than a belt guard, though.

On My bike I found that the small 6mm bolts in the front of the rear fender had worked out and were gome once I replaced them the rattle stopped. I took a pic that was already on the forum for illistration it is the small bolts all the way at the bottom front edge of the rear fender.

Well if its the Belt Guard, Like SobaCracka said you can use a piece of felt, or you can use rubber! My bike used to do it allot on big Bumps until I put the rear shock to its highest setting. Think it was bottoming out! Now, it will only do it 2 up and not very often. The stock springs are pretty soft, especially 2 up. I may still get a progressive spring this winter. Hope this helps!

It`s not the belt guard way to metalic for that. I`m going in the direction of crack or rear suspension. The diagram shows many of bushings and roller bearrings maybe one fell apart or is dry or rusted and hung up and snapping.A rear fender crack is not visable will look again. The sound seems to feel and sound like its tranfering through the frame, it`s a god awful noise. Thanks for the advise and look fors, will keep looking and let you know when i find it.

I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY O7 MAKING A BANG NOISE EVERY TIME I HIT A BUMP OR CRACK IN THE ROAD .
IT SOUNDED BAD BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT IT WAS JUST THE BELT GUARD ( WAS PRETTY LOUD) I FOUND OUT THAT THE THREADS ON THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE GUARD ON WERE NOT LONG ENOUGH TO TIGHTEN DOWN ALL THE WAY TO SQUISH THE RUBBER WASHER . I ADDED ANOUTHER STEEL WASHER TO MAKE UP FOR LACK OF THREADS OR U CAN GET A NEW BOLT THAT HAS THREADS THAT GO ALL THE WAY TO THE HEAD OF BOLT SO U CAN TIGHTEN IT AND COMPRESS THE RUBBER WASHER

SEEMS TO BE A FACTORY PROBLEM MY BIKE IS NOT THE FIRST. HOPE THIS HELPS
