I have used both an AirVent seat pad and now an Ortho-Deluxe seat pad. They aren't a perfect substitute for expensive after-market seats, from what I understand, but I can tell you that they make a 650-mile day possible for me when 300 miles was about the edge of what I could tolerate in a day on the stocker. Just got back from 2,000 miles in five days, the first day being 475 miles and the average over the five days at 400 miles per day. Would not even have thought about it on the stock seat. Pretty sure others will share their experience.

I got one for my wife she said it helps on the bumps but that's it .I think it was a $109. waste of money.....

although it may be just marketing hype ...I do believe as Corbin states gel and stock seats are what causes the aching tail bone

What do you think ?? a firm bed mattress is easier on the back than a soft sagging mattress

The stock seat is squishy soft and has a flexible seatpan made of ABS...and that it why it causes the aching tailbone..

You only add to this by adding a gel pad..


Any hoo I am going to agree with Corbin when they say firm is better....

Hmmm, the Ortho-Deluxe I use has a split for the tailbone, which is nice. Seat pad helps me, but then again I'm pressing 260 pounds down onto the stocker, which is not shaped to provide any support. It's like sitting on a wooden plank after 200 miles.

I bought a "PRO PAD" for my wife, she told me it helped some, but I'm thinkin' like collector714 it might have been a waste of $79.99. IMHO

my stock seat seamed to make my back sore, i went with the corbin custom cruise seat...it seamed very hard to the touch, the partsman told me it would be more comfortable, because it was a ferm seat..i thought he was full of it...well, i ended up apologizing..he was correct, i bought the seat from ebay at a bargan price...i ordered the corbin comfort cruise seat after i tried the custom cruise seat, and didnt like the comfort cruise seat as much as the custom cruise seat as much ...the comfort cruise seat was softer but still fermer than stock..also the leather on the comfort cruise seat was grainer...the custom cruise seat has a smooth leather finish an dense foam.. i loved the style of the seats from corbin, it sets me lower then stock seat height and cradles the rear ...its what worked for me...but may not work for you...its a matter of experamentation..

comfort cruise seat= softer cushion, and deep grain leather
custom cruise seat=ferm cushion and smooth leather surface
both seats have the same style, with skirt around the drivers seat, and optional studded and non studded
they also are easy install, they work as the stock seats do ,with same mounting apperatous

I've been seaching for comfort also and I have 415lbs on the seat.
The best thing so far has been the Baron's rear spring.
Next I got an Ultimate Seat, right away I could feel more support from the stiffer seat pan, but at my size I ended up putting the stock seat back on because the soft memory foam of the Ultimate left me sitting right ON the pan.
It's driving me nuts because my Vulcan is much more comfortable,.... but it's no Roadstar.

star1600 i feel your pain i bought an ultimate in sturgis im 350lbs its still not that comfy...and i still have a corbin touring dual for sale its a better looking seat but it set me and my fat butted 6'3"frame to far forward!

The Road Star frame does limit your options...

Just thinkin though..maybe we should be able to order a R* size S M or L...

The stock seat is built for one size fits all...you can slide on it to the spot that fits you the best...but this creates the problems...

and I have said this before...the Stock seat is built upon an.. ABS plastic.. very flexible seat pan
any saddle maker will tell you to build a good saddle you MUST start with a very rigid steel or fibreglass pan and go from there..


So you can reshape carve or add gel to the Stocker ..yer still stuck with that piece of flimsy seat pan
