Re:Removal of (very stylish) belt guard 3 Years, 2 Months ago
At long last someone else that wants to just take things off the Roadie! I now have two files boxes full of stuff I have removed and don't miss any of it. First thing to go was the lower belt guard. Looks to me like its only on there for the little sight window in it for judging belt adjustment. I'd love to take the top one off but with an occasional two up rider I'd be playing with some dangerous territory. Second best thing is cut holes in it to make it look better and lighten it up. Frankly guards are there for only two reasons, safety or back in the day to keep the grease from flying. If you ride only one up take the top one off too, it does nothing.

Oh and so far as rocks and stuff getting in to the belt. whwy didnt we worry about that with chains and have lower guards? I contend that there is more give in a belt than a chain so you are more likely to get away with a rock going in to the belt than a chain. Not to mention even if you lose a tooth or two on a belt you can still get home. Having more than once had a chain lose a link I'll take the belt every time.
