Sissy Bar 3 Years, 3 Months ago
I have a 2007 midnight Silverado with a Corbin dual tour seta and the factory tall sissy bar. My wife complains that the sissy bar is too far back. I saw a few threads on thisd a while back but no solutions. Is there a different sissy bar out there that doesn't lay back so much. I thought about using the corbin backrests but I'm worried they won't hold my T-bag well on a trip.

Have you thought about the "RAPTOR" sissy bar its also taller... I dont really know if it is tipped forward,or back more than the stock one,but you can still use t-bags or bags of the same sort!!!!! Is your wife shorter???

i have had several complaints from passengers on the roadie that they feel like they are too far away from me and dont like the big gap doesnt feel safe to them

i was trying to think up a way to make the bar taller and in the process tilt it forward...a much simpler solution although maybe not asthetically pleasing would be to place some sort of large spacer between the pad and the bar...i was thinkin of some square steel or aluminum boxing that you shape to follow lines of the sissy bar

You might be able to cut a pie out of the sissy bar torwards the front and the tip it forward and weld it !!! You would have to get it re-chromed of course!! Gatta have chrome...

Tone do you have a pic you could send to me by chance? (houstonch73@yahoo.com) I have the same setup but with the stock (short) sissy bar and I've been thinking of buying the taller one for my bike. Curious to hear about your problem as my wife actually wants to lay back more as the stock one.

As an aside, if anyone sees a used for for sale, please let me know.

Re:Sissy Bar 3 Years, 3 Months ago
i never installed my back rest onto my R* and after taking a quick look at it, it would be an easy fix to cut it off where the tube is welded to the solid mounts and change the angel there. i would think any small welding shop would do it for 20 to 40 bucks. probably would cost about the same to have it re-chromed...

another option would be to cut out a piece of ply-wood to the shape of the back side of the pad figure how thick you want it glue the layers of ply. together and bring it to a local upholstery shop and have it wrapped in some matching material and get some longer bolts...

I'll send you a pic tonight Houston. I may have a tall one for sale in the near future if I can find something different to use.

Has anyone used the sissy bar from scootworks? They say it is adjustable. I think that would solve my problem.

I thought the backrest pad was stupid looking (its round and the sisy bar is pointed?) and my wife never sat back due to its distance and she felt like she was falling down between the pad and seat.
I made a plywood pattern of the sissy bar and had a new pad made in the shape of the bar that came down as far as where it begins to bend forward. It fills the gap and now she sits back against it yet is not far away. Hopefully here is a link to pictures of mine (mine is the tall Yamaha bar):
