Yamaha Roadstar Engine guards 2 Years, 8 Months ago
|
|
Hello, I am a new R* owner (1999 silverado) and new to this forum. I want to put engine guards on. I was looking through the 2009 Star accessory catalog and kind of like the the smaller set PN TR-4WW31-10-00. I have not been able to find a photo of them installed on a bike. Anyone have these bars and what is your opinion of them. I really like the clean look of the bike without any bars and am not sure I want the Big bars. I also kind of like the looks of the Linby bars but they are a bit expensive.

If you can see them in my sigpic, I have the small Yami bars. I really like the bars, but I'll give you a heads up if your looking for road pegs, it's kinda hard to find some to work on the small bars. They don't come up quite as high as I would like. Had to go with the Kury Iso pegs and 2 inch extensions to gt them out far enough from the brake and shift lever.

Thanks for your input. Yes it is hard to see the bars on your bike. I am not concerned with road pegs at this time. I would like some protection while trying to maintain a clean look if that is posable.

Hi All
I have a set of engine guards but cannot find the installation instructions. Does anybody have them. They are the STR-4WM31-10.
I have a 2003 roadstar.
BTW, bmatpt, what kind of handle bars do you have on yours.
Thanks
Later...

I have an 03 Silverado with big Yami bars. I have laid the bike down three times because of stupid cagers! First & second times scratched the bar a little but no damage to the bike. Third time destroyed the bar and had minor damage to the bike. I guarantee that the small bars wouldn't take that treatment!
I can't do much for you for official Yahama parts; but if you want an engine guard from Cobra, MC Enterprises, or Lindby, I can get them for you for my cost + 10% + shipping. If you are interested send me a PM or call 863-441-2949.

The Yami small engine bars are too close to the engine and frame to be effective protection IMHO.
I have a set that I had to lose because of the floorboard extensions, and I;m going to replace them with Cobra Fattys.
Clifford you have a PM

Thanks for all the input. I decided on the big bars. I read some of the threads on "Crash Bars" and decided on the good stuff especially since I have dropped my bike twice in the past week. Once in the garage on the carpet (no damage) and once in the driveway (Crushed left front T-Signal) Both due to my not getting the kickstand fully extended. I have been so used to my Honda kickstand "Popping" out, Not so with the R* until I lubed it up. Now it snaps out as it should with very little effort. I found a set of big bars on Ebay for $89.

I have used the big yami bars on all my stars since they came out. 1100 and roadie . I have laid my scoots over and didn,t have any damage to the bike I was also very surprised at how I was able to just squat down grab the bike and with little effort the bike sprang back up. Also With the pegs on there it makes for a comfortable ride for my 6.0 foot frame. good luck bro

Big bar saves me a pile of cash and lots of downtime when I ran over a few gallons of oil in a turn. Still the bill was $2700 had it not been for the $148 Big Bar, Bill would be like $5000 and I would not have got my foot out from under the exhaust nearly as quick if at all.
So I am a fan of the Big bar. They will bend though in a crash, mine bent into the rear brake line and crushed it and I lost my rear brakes too.
