Hard bag hinges 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Does anyone have or has anyone seen (other than TheBru) metal hinges for the hard saddlebags? The plastic ones that they come with are not up to the task! I have had two left hand ones break and you can't buy just one; they sell them in pairs! So I bought two pair and have had a right hand one break. Saturday a customer called me; he has had a left hand one break. I called Yahama customer service and was told that plastic is all they offer, and that if someone has metal hinges that they are either aftermarket or custom made.

I had mine break a couple years ago and sweet-talked Yami out of a free set...but they told me the same--no metal ones available. I've literally looked for years, not found any. Mine are getting ready to go again, and when they do, you'll see the first Yami hard bags you've ever seen with metal gate hinges on them...

Actually, that's a really good question...I don't know if they are the same bolt pattern or not. But, to be honest...I'm almost looking forward to mine breaking, because I've been wanting to try and see if I can convert them to being a front hinge, rear latch style bag...as long as they don't turn out too fugly. It's a winter project thing...

I've been wondering the same thing myself ever since I had to replace my broken plastic hinges.

Maybe one day if one of the guys who has venture bags or anything else with a similar hinge could pull one off and trace out the shape and hole locations we'd know if they were close enough to adapt onto our bags.

Any volunteers ?

Rup

PS - I'm supposed to go on my company ride weekend tomorrow and there's talk of SNOW in the mountains !! It's AUGUST ! I need to move somewhere warmer . . . . . .

I know this is off topic, but I am looking at the Mutazu DMY trunk add to the bike, and was wondering with the Yami. sissybar rack, do you have to drop the hard bags with a Genos setup or will the hard bags open without droppin' the bags? I want to drop the bags but was wondering if I need to do this first or not? Trying to keep this quiet from my lovely bride without having a bunch of money on my card, even though the comfort is all for her. I also will probably be needing to change those hinges out soon. Sorry to hijack the thread, I know some of you have gotten the Mutaza trunks and they look pretty good. Thanks for any heads up.ODB
