rear fender 2 Years, 4 Months ago
I am thinking about taking my hard bags off for a little while and I am wondering if I do, do I need to put on fender struts? If so, does anyone have an old set kicking around they would be willing to part with?

The rear fender has a subframe under it and your bike should have some chrome "eyebrows" behind the bags (I think). Just take the bags, and bag frames off (they're ugly) and get some stainless or chrome m8 x 1.25(pitch) 40mm long button head bolts to reattach the fender sides to the subframe and your set.

Raider, I ran mine without the eyebrows (fender accent pieces) for a few days while I did some other upgrades. Never had an issue.

I just went and bought some shorter(25mm) m8x1.25 bolts to put in with both rubber and stainless washers. Rubber between the stainless washer and the fender. Aside from the fender "maybe" vibrating a little more than normal, I dont see any reason it cant be run that way until I can get some fender struts. Anyone have any reason why not to?

I'm pretty sure those "eyebrows" are stricktly cosmetic. It shouldn't be a problem.

if you replace the mount bolts w/shorter ones you may be ok. i have a buddy who rode his w/out the eyebrows or bolt for about 3 weeks and before he was done his paint had cracked. If you have the blots for the brows you may get away w/it but the bolts for the backrest are too long and will hit your tire.(i belive)
