Bingo, I think Paul nailed it...... maybe those engineers were thinking...
Don't know if Doc is running that way or not, but maybe he will pipe in...

Agreeing with Paul here. On my last R* I flipped that around and pointed it forward. That bike had bub stubbies, so no problem.

BTW, it worked just fine that way.

I've had it flipped for about 5k miles now, and no issues. Can't believe I missed the very obvious, but the pipes are in the way bigtime when I adjust it.

Been thinking about doing mine that way once I have to pull the rear off for the new wheel bearings. I think it look UGLY sticken out there.

They did make chrome adjuster plates that fit the same as the L on both sides. Tht is what the instruction shows. That is how mine is didn't have an exhaust problem just didn't like the bracket out the rear.

I believe it has to do more with physics rather than ease of adjustment. I have had mine on the front side and had no problems adjusting with all types of exhaust.

If you think of how the rear axle torques under acceleration ... you'll see that the axle on the left side gets pulled forward while on the right side it gets pushed back. I figure the engineers thought the axle would be more secure this way.

But what do I know ... I'm a scientist not an engineer.

Hey Doc,
I don't know what kind of scientific term "execration" is, but I hope my RoadStar never gets it.

I believe it was put that way for torque purposes as well. I still cut and turned mine around shortly after I got it and never had a problem. BB

Flunked English ..... I mean acceleration...

... don't ask why I typed 'execration' when I was thinking 'acceleration'
