Quick release passenger backrest 2 Years, 6 Months ago

I need some info on quick release backrest. I see that National cycle has the hardware and backrest for the R*. My question is can you use their hardware, but use your backrest? the picture of their system shows the sidearms bent inward toward the fender, THEN up. I have an awesome backrest, but it's wider..........goes straight from the side up. Can this be modified to work with MY backrest? The Yamaha quick release sidearms look more like they would work, but looks like it accepts a round backrest insert? this is frustrating............any ideas???

Not sure if this will help but I just purchased the Yamaha Quick Release Backrest. I had to replace everything, including the luggage rack. Only piece I could re-use was the backrest pad.
