Disassembly of Brakes 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Hey Folks,

Is there a way to disassemble the brake disk ring from the brake hubs? I haven't taken anything apart yet, but they look like one of those Chinese puzzles, the kind where it looks impossible to take apart then suddenly fall apart in your hands when you push it just right.

Thanks, Paul

Paul, just remove the cap screws that hold them to the hub.

I heated mine up with a torch a little before removal so the thread lock would soften.

Nope the brake rotor is all one piece. The 99-03 is solid not floating and the 04 up are floating so the center part is held together by those round large rivets. If they are worn beyond limits they are trash and need to be replaced. BTW did ya get the manifold on yet?

No Curt, it's sitting on the To-Do-This-Winter shelf.

Thanks for the info on the disk. I was thinking of taking them apart and powder coating the brake center, but I guess it is a no-go.

Yep the best you could do on that is cover everything you don't want painted with something that can be washed off somehow. Maybe a thick coat of grease the wash it off with solvant after it is painted.
