Hi Curt/Steve,yes i did fianlly get it the way i wanted it /thought it should handle/feel on the road.
It was really getting me down that i had brand new tires on the bike and everything checkout out ok with steering head/fork bearings and wheel bearings all being tight and it still had a serious handling issues.
I was begining to think it had a gremlin in it like a factory defect in frame angle or what ever.
Never thought a new tire could be that far off in tread design that doesnt work well the the R* geometry or it was simply defective in such a way to make the front dance all over the place.
It was just like if you were on a steel deck bridge going a little too fast and the bike starts getting squirly/getting very loose kinda going all over the place and you cant really keep it straight under complete control while your on a steel deck bridge but you never really loose complete control either as we have all experienced at 1 time or another.
That's the best description i can think of to dcsribe what my bike was handling like with the new dunlop 404 tire on it.
I had at least 2 if not 3 other people here in RSC tell me the Dunlop 404 tires caused the same unsafe instability issues.
It was so bad my wife could see me fighitng and said what the hecks going on with this bike?
Anyway,it drives and handle great now and i am so happy/relieved i got that behind me .
The next thing on the ajenda for this bike on the preventative side that i learned were issues with this bilke from all you guys here in RSC is i am going to 1st insualte the fuel line from f-pump to
carb that runs inbetween the hot cyl's in an attempt redeuce the chances of the hot carb puke deal on hot days that many people said they experience here in RSC. I am hoping keeping the fuel a little cooler entering the carb will ehlp this issue a little but the carb does heat soak big when motor is 1st shut down on hot days so we will see how that works out. Will also look forway to direct a littl more air to carb for better cooling too,am sure lrg stock aircleaner assembly blocks considerabvle airflow to carb, have to think about that one ,am trying to keep stock airbox for now iff possible.
2nd I am going to re-route a longer overflow hose that runs from carb to the airbox to below the bike/frame to keep fuel from running onto the hot engine or pipes if carb decides to puke which is not a good thing.
3rd i ordered the battery cable upgrade from Maxair that delivers mores amps to the starter & starter solenoid to help avoid the occassional hot start issue/slow cranking when trying to restart even a stock 8.3 comp R* on a hot day.
4th,when the current battery goes bad that's got the stock 270cca rating fror my bike i will replace it with a 320cca battery i found online for a lttle more umph too.
I did see that super hot PC545 CCA battery that was mentioned here in RSC but its listed in application chart on thier website as only fitting up to was it an 04 R* and wasnt listed as fitting my 06 silverado eve though i thought it would ,but i that 545 CCA battery kicks butt for sure. I am going t research that mpore i future to see if it will in fact fitme 06 silverado.
Then hopefully after doing those additonal moods i mentioned above i will have most of the other possible issues some of the R*'s seem to have covered for many yrs of reliable/safe riding in the future for me and my wife on this bike.
But i have to say the the kawi 1000 i bought new 33 yrs ago has spoiled me,the only thing thats broken/gone bad on the bike in 33 yrs other then gen maint items are the rubber carb to head intakes that dries out & cracked causing vacuum leaks/leanout fuel mixrues & a rectifier, thats it & it's never failed to start or left me stranded in 33 yrs either, those are hard shoes to fill
IMHO./LOL!!!!
May you all have safe riding .
Scott
