I need to paint my bags. I have an 03 silver star. I was thinking that the Duplicolor Metal Specks spray might be the way to go. Any comments or advice?

If you think the color will work for you then use it. I will say that prep is critical even with a rattle can maybe more so. Use the wax remover, wet sand, and fill rock chips etc. with glazing compound. Most important be patient, more thin caots will turn out better than one or two thick coats. I usually get in a hurry and mess up at least once. Good luck.

Try on a test item and let it set for a day or two then put it next to the bike to see how it matches. Make sure you primer the test item just like you would the bags. Sand the bags with 320 grit wet or dry paper do like Ron said and fill any nicks ect with glaze. Sand the primer between coats with 400 wet or dry until you get all the bemishes out. Spray the base coat like Ron said light coats after the coats are dry so no bugs will get in it sit it in the sun to cure. Sand the base coats with 600 wet or dry between coats once the base is good an uniform sand with 800 wet or dry till smooth and spary with clear. Light coats and sand with 1000 wet or dry between coats. Fianlly after te clear has cured for a few days buff with compound.

I did a frame last year with duplicolor and it came out great. 2 color coats, and 7 clear coats. No matter what you will get orange peel, so make sure you build enough clear so you can wet sand it all out. The problem is any gas, brake fluid, oil, etc will strip the paint right off very quickly, so keep a fresh coat of wax on them and be careful! If you google "rattle can paint job" you will find some helpful articles on doing it.
