The only bracket I can remember was the one that has the cable guides attached, it's not structurally important. How tall are your new bars? You may need to get stiffer bushings in there, the stock bushings are really soft and will wobble alot.

You can also eliminate the bushing and go solid. The rubber is only there to dampen vibrations.

The early R*s have two separate risers with two separate caps, the later bikes have risers connected together with a one piece cap. I don't think that would make any differance though. The risers are mounted on rubber bushings that soak up vibration. The OEM bars will move a bit and of course as the rubber ages things get more sloppy. When you put apes on and increase the leverage by abot 10 inches the bushings move that much more. You can put in new bushings, you can replace them with aftermarket bushings that are polyurethane and are stiffer, and you can eliminate the bushings and make then solid.

These are what you need:

http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/Barons_Good_nTite_Handlebar_Bushings_p/gt-1yd.htm

If you don't have a press to push out the old bushings, an easy way to get the old bushings out is to take 1/2" or so drill bit and drill out the rubber in between the triple tree and the metal sleeve in the stock bushings to relieve the pressure and pry them out.

It does make a dif. if your risers are not connected. my 4" risers, flexed and were very spongy (would turn/flex) but when connected together at the top they could not turn/flex. just my .o2
