help me out guys.. 2 Years, 4 Months ago
im about to buy 3 new tires..a front dunlop cruise-max to match the rear on mama's 05 roadie..but on my midnight its between the avon venom, dunlop 491 elite II or the metzeler 880 marathon.. i know the avon is highly recommended by people here as are the mets880s.. cant get any feedback on the dunlops though..the drastic change in tread desigh between the elite2 and elite3 makes me wonder if the 2s were having problems to warrant such a change..however the tread and white lettering on the 2s are just looking like i wanna buy em material to me.. im pulling the trigger any day now.. any advice is gladly accepted.. and im staying on the brite side..using m/c tires.. the darkside doesnt appeal to me.. thanks, MPM ..

From what I understand about the Elite 3's, it was mainly a compound change to help extend the mileage some.

I've heard good things about the AVON's and currently run the ME880's..... So to me, it would be a toss up between the Avon's and the Metzler's. I've never personally run the Avon's, so I'd stick with the Metzler's. But that is just me.

As for me, I'd buy what meets my current needs.....

Dont know bout the elites....I'll never run a 404 again though. On my 04' I've had avon venoms and me 880s. To me they were the same....they both stuck like glue, I could put my knee in the pavement on curves...( if the floorboards would allow it)... the avons wore a little quicker, not much. I stuck with the metzlers because they were a hair cheaper. I ll never run anything else.

I have not run Avons, but I have gotten much better mileage out of ME 880s, run about 4psi more pressure than the 404 Dunlops.

The 491's are excellent tires. I ran them from the time they appeared on the market until the E-3's came out.
