tail /brake light 1 Year, 7 Months ago
my 01* is curently disassembled ready for rebuild. i want to get rid of the factory tail/brake light. imho the tombstone tail/brake light is too common of a replacement. i'm looking for more of a flush replacement. but, all am i'm locating is l.e.d. by default my bike doesn't support l.e.d. i think i will need a modulator to support l.e.d ?
how difficult is the modulator to install ? what's the risk if not install it correctly ?

if anyone knows of a place i can find a somewhat flush tail/brake light that will work without any modification to the electrical system, plz share. thanks for all input in advance.

p.s. i don't mind drilling holes in the fender if needed.

Dang I'm a commoner..LOL, I have an LED Tombstone, you don't have to change any thing in the wiring for the tail/brake besides hooking it up, it's the turn signals that need the load equalizer.

booster, thanks for the reply & the signal/equalizer correction. i am in NOOOOO way a mechanic. i refer to myself as a parts replacer. have worked on every dirt bike i've ever owned. I am a total noobie when it comes to working on a cruiser & intimidated by workng on a cruiser.too many wires & anything i might screw up by my trial & error of "fixn" or moding is too damn expensive to fix .thus the reason of asking what some may think is a dumb question. I'm sure I'll have more dumb ?'s thru out the winter for you guys. again thanks for your help.

Booster is correct, just the load equalizer for the turn signals.
I'm running flush mount turn/tail/brake in the rear fender. I don't really care for the lights being inside the fender, planning on changing them out next spring maybe.

Here's a link to the type I'm running. http://www.customdynamics.com/led_flush_mount_kits.htm

There doesn't seem to be a lot of custom taillights out there, am I just missing them?
I gotta come up with something different, who's with me?

i too am a commoner with the tombstone (non-l.e.d)what though me off was the fact that it is a grounded system.not a pos. system, that means if you test with a test light you will clamp the tester on the pos. side of the battery rather then the neg.

Kuryakyn makes a nice curved license plate/turn signal unit. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/kuryakyn-turn-signals-with-lighted-curved-license-plate-for-road-star/part/KY-9197. Bolts right on as its made to replace stock Roadstar plate mount and turn bar... This let's you get the plate flush to the fender..

Anyone know the laws in California? Are turn signals required on motorcycles?
