Light bar - prone to cracking? 1 Year, 3 Months ago
I am considering buying a used light bar on e-bay with passing lamps. I read in a couple of threads that the Yamaha factory accessories light bar is prone to cracking. Have you ever heard of this, is it true? Thanks

Yep. Mine cracked. I had my neighbor weld it back up for me. Better than new now. If you get it for a decent price, You can have it welded for probably less than $20.00.

I got one a couple years ago...after yami found out about the problem. Compared to my buddys older one, I can see where mine is welded better. ....dont know exactly when they started doing it though. Still, my buddy has 55k with his older bar and no problems...luck of the draw I guess.

No trouble with both of mine. I think 05 and over are welded better.

mine broke twice, once on a cold weld joint, and a second time because the sheet material that the light attached to was bent with the grain instead of across it. I trashed it, and made my own brackets. The only things on my 03 that have given me problems are the USA made accessories!

I have 2005 R-Star. Coming from Vancouver BC on a trip, I stopped at small town in Oregon. Guy on a Harley asked me if my lightbar ever cracked on me. He said his buddy had two crack on him. I said no, I haven't had that problem. I wasn't 3 hrs. down the road and my lightbar cracked on me. I found a guy that welded it for me and it's now as good as ever. The timing of the guy who told me & when it happened, blew me away!

The stock one on my '08 Silverado broke completely at the weld. I JB welded it and it held but I bought a new one to be on the safe side. It appeared to be welded better and I haven't had any problems from it. It problem on the original was a cold weld.
