shifter mod 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Has anyone cut off the heel portion of the shifter? I never use it and would like to have the extra room. I would like to remove it but it looks like you would need a spacer on the shaft and I'm not sure how much is invovled it taking it off.

I've cut mine off of both of mine... but they're '01s. To read your post, I get the impression you might be referring to the 2-piece shifter on later models... is that right?

My '07 was 2 piece. Try as I might, I just couldn't get used to the heel shifter. Took it off (easy) and have it lying in my spare parts drawer if anyone needs one...

If its the later shifter.

You could remove the heal portion (spoon) but it will leave the splined stud sticking out of the back of the shifter.

You could also cut the back of the shifter off, making sure to leave the pinch bolt(#22) room to work.

I don't use mine either. I adjusted the heal portion so it's as low as it can go with out hitting anything on the up shift. Now it doesn't bother me being there. My foot slides right over the top of it.

I cut mine off and left everything else there. Ground and polished the remains nice and round.

Sandals!??! Get off my plane!

So on the two piece shifters, they work independently of each other right? I've heard of too many "shift lever fell off" stories to want to ditch the heel, even tho I've used it like twice

Not really, the heel and toe shifter are separately adjustable. But they both pivot off the same shaft.

If you lost the toe shifter the heel shifter went with it. Cant really see the shaft in the pic I posted earlier. However, the shaft comes through the spacer marked #16 then into the shifter.
