Memphis Shades Batwing 1 Year, 1 Month ago
I just purchased a Memphis shades Batwing Fairing for my
2000 road star silverado. I also purchased the mounting kit
#2321-0114 and followed the instructions but when I mounted
the fairing the headlight cutout was a full 5 inches above
the headlight. I have been over and over and over the
instructions thinking I had something upside down. But
everything is the same as the instructions. I am very
frustrated with this install which should have been a bolt
on and go. I have even double checked the mounting kit
thinking that maybe the wrong parts were packaged, but they
look the same as in all the photos I have seen of the kit
for the road star. 5 inches?! What could possibly cause such
a discrepancy? It looks like crap so high. It is even higher
than the hand grips.
I ended up re-working the mounts that bolts to the fairing
And it looks good and works good. I have contacted customer
service at Memphis Shades and they are looking into it.
Anybody else have any problems with their mount kits?

I had her out on Saturday and the fairing works well and it is very nice looking. But I had to do some re-working on the mounts on the bike itself. The fairing was about half an inch too far towards the throttle side.Re-drilled the holes on the throttle side bracket and then did some creative bending with a large adjustable wrench and everything lines up as it is supposed to. Cut my own lower deflectors with some lexan I had kicking around. Painted them up last night, but it is a rain snow mix here when I got home so I will bolt them on in the house and maybe go for a ride after work tomorrow. The ones I cut are a little larger but if I have to cut them down I can.

Mine actually sat to low, I drilled hole mounting holes a little farther up, but also you can move the top 2 bolts that the fairing clips on to, they move back and forth, that also provides more adjustment than you think.

Update on the fairing from Memphis Shades customer service: The wrong fairing was packed in the box. They say they will ship me a new one and I can send that wrong one back,But I have already modified my brackets for the wrong one. I would need a new mounting kit as well. And I would probably be on hook for shipping. A no-win situation for me.

Apparently there are dimensional differences between the fairing I received and the correct one for the Road Star. So, I gotta bite the bullet and do the exchange and possibly have to purchase another mounting kit.

Re:Memphis Shades Batwing 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I love my Memphis Shade except for one thing, in high wind turbulance or behind a semi, etc, it wobbles, shakes and such. I was thinking of shoring it up some how. Anyone got any ideas on how to make it more ridged? Maybe some kind of Turnbuckle attached to the fairing mount hardware clamped to the handlebars?

Thanks

Mike
