#487409 bencadenbach (User) Is aggravated like a T-Rex with a hard on Expert Boarder Posts: 413 Exhaust Stud 1 Year ago   One of my exhaust studs broke again today, the same one that broke off flush about this time last year. I was fortunate that there was enough left that I was able to get this one out with vice grips this time. I had removed my exhaust to change my transfer case oil and when putting the exhaust back on the stud broke off and I wasn't even tightening yet just barley getting it started. But to cut to the chase what would be the best thing to replace it with so I hopefully do not have to deal with this again. Snapped one of mine off and mistakenly tried to repair it myself. $220 lesson learned. But they put in a slightly larger bolt so, so far so good. Perhaps there is a higher grade of steel stud available? Maybe there is a stainless steel stud available? Does anyone have thread length and pitch specifications? The key is to start with the smallest and sharpest bit you can and go up a size or two from there (depending on the size EZ-out you use). Drill as straight into the stud as you can. Make sure the pilot hole is DEAD CENTER on the bolt. Gonna be time consuming but it might save you $$$. If you get it out the exhaust studs are size 8MM X 1.25. Water pump studs for foreign made use that size. Stainless would be a plus. Anti-seize them also just in case. GP   Logged     The administrator has disabled public write access.
