Tire brand question for my R* 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Greetings All,

I am sorry if this upsets folks, I did a search and could not find any suggestions on tire brands that work better than others on R*s.

I have not bought MC tires in 25 years and have never bought tires for a cruiser type only sport bikes. The last bike I had was a FJ1200 with Michelin Sport Comps on it, no milege out of them but they sure were grippy.

So here is the question, Is there a tire brand that gives the best of both worlds in milege and handling. Cost is a factor but not the driving one, I want tires the are great handling and long wearing.

Thanks for understanding my question, I have only had my Roady for a month now and this site has taught me so much.

Thanks again,

Joel

as a general rule the high milage tires are a harder compound so you give up the handling.i have used tires from dunlop, metzeler bridgestone and shinko.

price and handling goes to shinko 777 mileage goes to dunlop 402.

the metz 880 handles better then the dunlop gets about the same mileage but the price is much higher.

Michelin Commander is the best I've tried for Texas style riding.

I just put on a set of Commander II's (Michelin) and have a little over 500 miles on them and have fallen in love with the way this bike handles all over again. I think I like them better than my old Metz, and the price was right......$275 for front and rear to my door.

I had bridgestone and dunlop and now shinko, Love the shinko 777 for the front and rear, once I wear these out I'll be buying another set.

I torched a Dunlop in 4000 miles last year. Hoping for more from the Metz ME880

I have about 3000 miles on a Commander II front and about 300 on the new rear. These tires handle GREAT and are supposed to be high mileage as well. One of the things that impressed me with the new rear was the strength of the sidewall, with the old Michelin Commander I could compress the sidewalls with a thumb and fore finger, with the new Commander II I could barely compress the sidewalls using both hands in a vise like grip. Also very competitively priced with the others.

Just put the Michelin Commander II on the front, Avon Venom is on the back. Sure hoping for more than the 7k the Dunlop 404 gave me on the front.
