No luck finding the link. Just an opinion regardless.

Maybe if they used the right tires on the right bikes the article would read "Best thing to happen to the MC world since chaps"

There are so many riders on just THIS forum who have gone to the darkside with the right tire and I have yet to hear of ANYONE who had and "Unsafe" issue.

I will agree that you can't just throw any 16" tire on the back of these bikes, you need to have the right one or it could be a problem. MS1700 and I have always advised everyone to "Research" first before you buy and install.

I've toyed with the idea for a couple years. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I rode with a guy last summer that was running a car tire on his lowered VTX1800 and he was tearing up the twisties as well as the rest of us. He said he was more than happy with the set up.

I start a job tomorrow that is 60 miles one way. I plan to swap over simply for mileage sake as soon as I wear my current Metz down to nothing.

Darn, I'll be PMing you for a suggestion as to which one I should get.

I read the article too. It is not written as an opinion, but shows the scientific differnces between the way a car tore and a motorcycle tire handles the forces. It also notes the difference in materials used, and sidwall strength. What the article does is present facts, discussion from manufacturers, opinion from darksiders, and poses a question on safety (on the cover the article name ends with a question mark). At the end of the article it also has a discussion of something to think about - will your insurance cover you in am accident if you are using equipment that was not designed to be used on a bike?

It's a good article worth reading.

This is on par with another discussion I have been involved in over the weekend regarding running a "spoolie" front end, rear brake only. It violates federal MVSS, which are LAW. I have more than one insurance policy that will not pay off if I am participating in illegal activity when killed, or dismembered. Knowingly operating a non-conforming vehicle is a good way to not get paid, and if you cause others loss while doing so, kiss the homestead goodbye and get ready for prison. Bottom line.

I know others will think that is a crazy notion, but this country paid a woman 20 million dollars for spilling hot coffee in her lap, and gave a convicted drug dealer and addict (Rodney King) 14 million.

Take your chances with the courts if you will. I have a family to support.
