3m has an adhesive remover that is safe on paint you can find it at most auto parts stores also the old timers used to tell me to use lighter fluid like zippo or ronsol to get adhesive off havent used it in years myself or on adhesive but used to work like a charm on tar back in the day..

Someone once suggested fishing line to me, but I've used my wife's hair dryer, matchsticks to keep teh pressure on the decal badge and then very careful slicing with a razor blade. Dodgy I know but I do like to run the gauntlet

Use fishing line or dental floss to run behind the emblem in an up and down sawing motion to remove the emblem. Once the emblem is removed use a heat gun to soften the leftover residue, then spray it with WD-40 or GooGone(available at Wal-Mart near paint supplies) let it soak. Then remove the remaining residue with a rag. You may have to repeat this process several times and you can use a plastic putty knife or spatula to help get the hard stuff off.
Do NOT use a razor blade! (Ask me how I know )
I would recommend not using decal remover either. Some will remove paint (again, ask me how I know ) and once you spray it on it's too late to turn back if your paint starts to peel or bubble.

I've used charcoal lighter fluid in the past on adhesive and tape residue without any finish problems, works great

My sign guy gave me one of these to get the lettering off of my truck, works like a charm. I didn't have one when I debadged my tank, so I used an old buffing wheel and polishing compound. It worked just almost as good. Remember to where glasses if you go this route.
